General Electric – Variable Frequency Transformer (VFT)

Matrix NAC completed the Variable Frequency Transformer (VFT) project within the Bayway Refinery located in Linden, New Jersey. This project entailed a nominal 300MW net output regulated power transmission station capable of transmitting power bi-directionally between the 230kv PJM system and the 345kv NYISO system via the Linden Cogeneration Facility 345kv system.

Matrix NAC successfully completed the project with no major incidents or recordable injuries. Installation highlights included the three general VFT sets along with the following:
Three 17kv to 230kv 3 phase main transformer sets, Three 17.4 to 345kv 3 phase main transformer sets, 230kv & 345kv gas insulated bus, 230kv & 345kv solid dielectric power cables, 17kv ISO phase and non-segregated bus, and a new 230kv switchyard.
